She has recently co written and co facilitated a two year holistic programme for the NHS supporting clients with complex PTSD. She is also an Equine Learning Facilitator and and works with clients in nature, using the seasons and natural rhythms of the countryside as a deep reflection of the self.

Sharon works very dynamically and will offer you a real sense of being heard, understood and validated.

Sharon’s approach

Sharon believes that psychotherapy can offer a safe and confidential space in which to understand any issues that maybe affecting your life.

Sometimes we may find ourselves in a place where it is difficult to move forward and this can lead to difficult feelings of isolation and loneliness. Therapy is about changing unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour and gaining insight into how we relate to ourselves and others.

With support and reflection, it will be possible to gain a deeper understanding and self awareness, enabling you to move into a healthier and more sustainable way of being.

Transactional Analysis is wonderful for helping us understand how “decisions” made in childhood help form our “story” or “script”. These decisions remain out of our awareness and create limiting patterns of being. The therapeutic relationship creates the possibility for new ways of relating. Sharon believes by “looking at the past, in the present we are able to secure the future”.

Psychotherapy can help with

Anxiety and Stress

Depression

Family and Relationship Problems

Low Self Esteem

Emotional difficulties

Loss and Bereavement

Relationship issues

Testimonial

I went to see Sharon with a real need for support, after reaching a very desperate low point. I had been recommended by friends. Sharon immediately made me feel safe, at ease and comfortable enough to start my healing/exploration journey. Her knowledge, energy and sheer presence is awe inspiring. She has slowly, calmly and patiently guided me into a stage of my life I only ever dreamed of. She has educated me, inspired me, helped and shown me how to truly seek and find all the answers and knowledge I needed to help me get closure, to learn from my past and most importantly, given me the tools to seek fulfilment in all parts of my life, even beyond my initial issues, I had been seeking help with.

Her professionalism is bar none. Sharon is an astounding therapist and through working with her over the last year or so, I have found self empowerment. She has quite literally changed my life and for that I am truly grateful.

Born to western medical parents, Robert entertained the idea of becoming a surgeon. He spent some time in China as a teenager to study anatomy, physiology and medical terminology at the university his father taught at. That’s when he met an acupuncturist, and martial arts mentor, who once taught:

“Western medicine sees the body as a machine with parts to be altered with and ignored if symptoms aren’t life threatening enough. Ancient Chinese medicine sees the body as a garden. When a plant is dry, it is watered, not replaced.”

After watching his patients’ success, as well as having treated Robert’s life long acid reflux, he became inspired to learn Chinese medicine for its accurate healing process and technique.

Years later, he moved to the UK and graduated from the The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, with a bachelor’s degree in science with honours.

Robert is equipped with the knowledge and skills of the ancient doctors, their predecessors, and today’s contemporary pioneers. He is proficiently trained in all modes of acupuncture and Chinese medicine to treat a variety of ailments. He is also a qualified sports massage therapist.

On his free time, Robert writes fiction, practices callisthenics, yoga/Pilates, and goes on long hikes in the wilderness to meditate on the mysteries of the universe.

Nicola Harvey Adv EFT, Dip Hyp CS, RCN Accred. Therapeutic Coach & EFT Therapist

About Nicola:

With a compassion-focused approach, I provide a therapeutic space where you can feel seen, listened to, and have your feelings validated. I am an experienced trauma-informed therapeutic practitioner and have been working with individuals and client groups for over 15 years. A former senior teacher and mental health lead in education, I am passionate about developmental psychology and how life’s ups and downs can impact our emotional health and mental wellbeing. I am qualified in a range of modalities, including emotional freedom technique (EFT), counselling, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness. I am also a registered instructor for Mental Health First Aid England. Attuned to cultural-sensitivity, I am particularly interested in creating safe and nurturing spaces for clients from a range of cultural backgrounds.

How do I work?

Therapeutic Coaching is a hybrid between coaching and talk therapy. My therapeutic focus is through emotional freedom technique (EFT or Tapping), a clinically-proven form of somatic psychology and talk therapy, based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Tapping is known to reduce anxiety, stress, PTSD, and a range of other conditions. To support the therapeutic process, Tapping is integrated with developmental psychology, life coaching, NLP and somatic mindfulness to form Therapeutic Coaching. To learn more about my approach from some of my clients watch this video. Each person is unique, with a different set of lived experiences and beliefs, so all sessions are tailored towards your specific needs. I work with you to develop a treatment plan and provide a non-judgemental, safe space to explore and make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Sessions are facilitated a supportive manner at the Tree of Life Centre, to help you develop greater self-awareness; uncover deeply rooted emotional issues impacting your current situation; and find clarity to move forward in a way that feels right for you.

Areas I support with are:

• Anxiety & Stress • Self-Esteem • Relationship issues • Bereavement • Coping Skills • Life Transitions • School Issues • Trauma and PTSD • Physical Symptoms

I work with adults and children, and am always happy to offer a free initial assessment to explore the option of working together.

Acupuncture - Five Element & Traditional Hove Community Acupuncture Team

Sarah is a highly experienced acupuncturist with a calm, friendly and passionate approach to her work.

She explains her background:

“I began my love of Acupuncture many years ago when I was working in a very demanding and stressful job. I was amazed at how it helped to bring balance into my life, both mentally and physically. I continued to have acupuncture for many years and it supported me throughout my life, including the birth of my 2 children.

I trained at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading (affiliated by Kingston University) and graduated with a BSc in Acupuncture.

The style of acupuncture that I studied incorporates both Five Elements and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Having experienced both these types of acupuncture personally, I am delighted to be able to offer them both in an integrated approach.

I am specially interested and trained additionally in Womens’ Health, from fertility to pregnancy to menopause and everything in-between. Acupuncture is all about bringing balance and there are so many elements in modern day living that can cause unbalance.

I am passionate about acupuncture working alongside Western Medicine. I have worked extensively for Macmillan, giving Acupuncture treatments to those who are undergoing treatment for Cancer. I believe that acupuncture is a very effective tool to work alongside conventional medicine.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of conditions and I have experience of treating many areas, such as; emotional wellbeing (anxiety, depression), musculoskeletal pain and injuries, childrens’ health, chronic and acute conditions (from ME and Asthma to the common cold) and addictions such as smoking.

Sara Rooney

Medical Herbalist BSc (Hons) Herbal Medicine, Ba (Hons) Social Anthropology, Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalist

I am a qualified Medical Herbalist and have specialised in women’s health and hormone balance for over ten years and also completed postgraduate training in Mycotherapy, the study of medicinal mushrooms.

Hormone imbalance can affect a wide range of physiological functions and can cause a diverse array of physical and emotional symptoms. This imbalance can have a significant effect on our wellbeing and how we feel day to day. Through the years, I have helped support a wide range of women, of all ages, with symptoms of PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis, unexplained fertility, perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms, PMT and PMDD, period irregularities and pain, gut imbalances including IBS, sleep issues, joint pain and inflammation, hormonal acne, low mood and anxiety.

I will support you utilising herbal medicines, medicinal mushrooms, targeted nutrition strategies and stress management can help gently support hormones back into balance. I analyse the bigger picture of your health; your nutrition, your stress levels, your daily activity, your exercise, and movement. My challenge is to discover the root cause of imbalances and gently, but effectively, help you restore your vitality with targeted plant-based medicine and nutrition. I use a personalised functional approach and incorporate targeted functional testing, including gut, hormone and metabolic panels, if necessary, to get to the root cause of symptoms.

I am also a firm believer in integrated health whereby natural medicine and modern medicine can be part of a bigger system whereby both can work individually and also, synergistically to provide the best possible health outcomes. The advances in modern medicine are truly amazing and life saving, however there are times where a gentler more preventive approach is necessary. This is where I believe herbal medicines, targeted nutrition and lifestyle medicine can play an important role. I have worked collaboratively in clinics with Functional Drs, Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Psychotherapists, as sometimes a combined approach is necessary to restore health.

My pathway into Medical herbalism began whilst working on a Quechua project in the Amazon basin, Ecuador, with limited access to pharmaceutical medicines after completing a degree in Social anthropology at Sussex University. I was immediately drawn to working alongside the local Shaman collecting and propagating medicinal plants, and was treated successfully for several persistent ailments with these plant medicines. I was hooked and decided I had to learn more about plant based medicine.

I returned to the UK and completed a degree in Phytotherapy B.S.c.(Hons) at the University of East London whilst running a support project with young carers. My research project was on Phytotherapy for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and was later published in the International Journal of Herbal Medicine by Elsevier.

I have always had a strong passion for women’s health and how herbs can support hormone balance. I have run, led workshops and been resident herbalist on women’s wellness retreats in the UK, Spain and Portugal, including at Vale de Moses. I have written extensively on women’s health topics for the Herbal Academy in the US. I am currently formulator and consultant for Adaptogenic Apothecary, developing a range of adaptogenic functional herbal and mushroom powders. Utilising my many years of experience supporting women with natural medicine, I can support, direct and empower you to achieve your health goals. Small changes make a big difference over time and these need to be sustainable, we work together to find changes that support you. Herbs and plant based medicines have been used for millennia to support women’s health in every culture. I take a modern evidence informed approach to incorporating these natural medicines, the latest research and my clinical experience, to support you to optimum health and vitality, so you can feel you again.

Homeopath

“I first found homeopathy when I was pregnant and preparing for my ‘natural’ birth! However, it was when my 10 week old developed impetigo that I experienced it’s true value. Antibiotics was offered by the GP, but I was reluctant because he was so young. Advice from Helios - the Homeopathic Pharmacy, suggested Homeopathic ‘Ant Crud 30’ which to my surprise healed the impetigo overnight.

I turned again to Homeopathy some months later, feeling at a very low ebb from what felt like endless breastfeeding and broken nights sleep. The homeopathic consultation felt so healing, and combined with the remedy, I felt my mood and world shift immediately after. This was enough to convince me and I started the 4 year training a few weeks later.

Since then, homeopathy is part of our everyday life. We see earaches clear up in hours, distraught children falling into a peaceful slumbers, fears of the dark vanishing and a fever becoming something to work with, rather than feared. I was lucky enough to have two home births, which I gladly attribute to well prescribed remedies.

My work now focuses on helping families gain the knowledge and confidence they need to treat theirs, and their children’s (minor) ailments themselves. I offer consultations, courses, and have produced a small book of all the natural remedies I used along the way, as I cared for my boys.

I love to work with mothers to help find their balance and center amid family life. I have learnt that Mothers are the pinnacle of the family, and if they are well cared for and in good balance, the family in turn is nourished. I also co-run Brighton’s Arnica group. A supportive monthly group for natural parenting and immunity.”

About Rosie

Rosie is a caring and highly approachable counsellor & psychotherapist who offers a confidential, space for you to come and explore thoughts, feelings and issues you may be currently struggling with.

She works with adults and has a specialist interest in helping teens and adolescents.

Rosie explains her approach:

“I believe compassion for self and others is central to finding contentment and much of my work focuses on this. Without self compassion, our loud critical voices can prevent us from living in the moment and allowing others close to us.

People come to counselling for many different reasons, such as trying to make sense of a difficult period in their life or possibly an increasing need to understand a problem that has always been there.

I am a Humanistic counsellor and believe each of us has the ability to grow, heal and to ultimately find fulfillment within ourselves. My job is to be alongside you on your journey, reflecting back what I see and at times gently challenging unhelpful beliefs and coping strategies you may have adopted to get through a difficult past. Whilst these coping strategies may have been necessary once they may now be holding you back.”

Free initial session

Looking for the right counsellor can be overwhelming, especially when you are feeling vulnerable and lost. With this in mind, I am happy to offer a 30 minute introductory session at no charge. This is a chance for us to meet and for you to decide if I’m the right person for you. We can also use this time to look at what it is you would like to get out of counselling.

I can offer both short term counselling, usually between 6 - 12 sessions, or more open-ended counselling depending on your needs and circumstances. I am experienced at working with both Adults and Adolescents.

I practise combined TCM and Five Elements Acupuncture, which can include sports/orthopaedic acupuncture, ear, scalp and pregnancy acupuncture. Five Elements Acupuncture is more focused on the connection between the emotions and the body. Lifestyle advice varies but can include Qigong exercises (gentle movements that enhance the body’s flow of Qi).

I studied at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, where I also completed a diploma in Tui na (Chinese Medical massage). I am committed to my continuing professional development - so far I’ve completed extra training in musculoskeletal conditions, Channel palpation (assessing the state of the body’s energetic pathways, or Channels, which informs diagnosis and treatment), ear and scalp acupuncture, and pulse diagnosis.

One day a week, I work for the Royal Free Hospital in London, practising acupuncture on both staff and patients.

I have been a sports/remedial massage therapist for twelve years, and also do Thai and pregnancy massage, as well as manual lymphatic drainage, so I have years of experience in complementary therapy, with acupuncture being the evolution of my practice.

I enjoy yoga and Qigong, walking, swimming and reading. As well as watching TV and eating chocolate!
