Suzanne is a highly experienced massage therapist with an outstanding reputation for the quality of her treatments and friendly, nurturing style:

“I trained as a fitness instructor and personal trainer in 1991. In 1993 I completed a diploma in Swedish massage which was to later become my passion when I retrained with the London School of Sports Massage in 2002.

I am dedicated to offering safe and effective treatments to all of my clients, in a warm and caring environment. I use a combination of massage, pressure, mobility and stretch techniques to release, strengthen and invigorate soft tissue and restore optimum function, drawing on my knowledge of the body and movement patterns to help people on their way towards their goals.

One of my core beliefs is that body tissue will always respond positively when given the appropriate environment and stimulation, both from the client and myself.

I am able to skilfully apply my experience and knowledge which has been gleaned from 25 years of working with clients, as well as from attending many workshops and courses to keep up to date. I always communicate clearly, explaining my use of techniques as necessary or as requested. My work is very intuitive so that no two treatments are ever the same. Working with touch and listening in this way, I am able to really tune into my clients’ needs.

Over the years, I have built up a strong network with other health professionals, including osteopaths, physiotherapists, GP’s, psychotherapists, herbalists, personal trainers, nutritionists, homeopaths and acupuncturists. From time to time I refer clients to other forms of intervention, depending on their health status and goals.

I look forward to meeting you!”

Psychotherapist and Counsellor

“I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor offering free assessments from a friendly practice in Hove. Therapy offers an opportunity to explore your concerns at your own pace in a safe, supportive and confidential setting.

People come to counselling for a variety of reasons. Some may come with a particular problem, or in response to a crisis or trauma in their lives .Others may come to explore long standing issues, or are seeking an increased understanding of who they are or why they behave in certain ways.

Therapy can also help when you don’t know exactly what troubles you, but you have a sense that something is not right or that life is not as fulfilling as it could be. Sometimes we just need extra support for a while to get through a difficult time. My experience includes helping people with:

-Anxiety and stress

-Relationship issues

-Panic disorder

-Low self esteem

-Bereavement and loss

-Relationship break up

-Pet loss

-A sense of ‘feeling not quite right’

-Low energy and exhaustion

-Feeling teary or overwhelmed

-Family relationships, past and present

-Depression

-Feeling isolated and alone

-Eating disorders and OCD

-Adult/Child trauma

-Someone to talk to

I also incorporate Cognitive Based Therapy (CBT) in my practice as I believe that, with commitment, it can bring about significant changes and benefits.

Using CBT techniques can be very effective in exploring how unexamined or unconscious beliefs and assumptions can work to limit our options, self expression and even our health. Through bringing our ‘thinking habits’ into the light, CBT gives us the tools to challenge and dismantle unhelpful behaviour patterns. CBT can then be brought in to every area of our lives to increase our autonomy, confidence and wellbeing.

In addition, I offer specialist sessions (1 to 1 or small groups) working specifically with understanding and managing anxiety, stress and panic symptoms.

I am an experienced couples therapist.

I also offer Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from The Northern Guild for Psychotherapy, accredited by the UKCP. I am registered with the BACP and adhere to their code of ethics and confidentiality.

I am a psychotherapist and counsellor working with adults, both men and women, and couples, who bring a wide range of personal concerns, crisis, trauma and emotional difficulties.

As well as private practice, I have had many years experience working as a counsellor and psychotherapist in a large GP surgery in the North East. I am also currently employed by Mind, working in a specialist centre in Hove for people with mental health difficulties and a diagnosis of Personality Disorder.

I specialise in anxiety, stress and panic symptoms and offer treatment to help with understanding and managing anxiety. I also deliver the Managing Anxiety course for the Recovery College. (See https://www.sussexrecoverycollege.org.uk)

I have a degree and an ongoing interest in philosophy and offer existential psychotherapy.

My Approach

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist, which means drawing on and blending elements of different theories towards a combined approach, yet still tailoring the therapy to the needs of each person.

I work with clients from various ethnic, religious and social backgrounds and with diverse sexual identities.

Psychotherapy or counselling is intended to improve well-being and to lead to a greater capacity to make choices and changes that enhance your life.

I began my love of Acupuncture many years ago when I was working in a very demanding and stressful job. I was amazed at how it helped to bring balance into my life, both mentally and physically. I continued to have acupuncture for many years and it supported me throughout my life, including the birth of my 2 children.

I trained at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading (affiliated by Kingston University) and graduated with a BSc in Acupuncture.

The style of acupuncture that I studied incorporates both Five Elements and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Having experienced both these types of acupuncture personally, I am delighted to be able to offer them both in an integrated approach.

I am specially interested and trained additionally in Womens’ Health, from fertility to pregnancy to menopause and everything in-between. Acupuncture is all about bringing balance and there are so many elements in modern day living that can cause unbalance.

I am passionate about acupuncture working alongside Western Medicine. I have worked extensively for Macmillan, giving Acupuncture treatments to those who are undergoing treatment for Cancer. I believe that acupuncture is a very effective tool to work alongside conventional medicine.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of conditions and I have experience of treating many areas, such as; emotional wellbeing (anxiety, depression), musculoskeletal pain and injuries, childrens’ health, chronic and acute conditions (from ME and Asthma to the common cold) and addictions such as smoking.

“I first found homeopathy when I was pregnant and preparing for my ‘natural’ birth! However, it was when my 10 week old developed impetigo that I experienced it’s true value. Antibiotics was offered by the GP, but I was reluctant because he was so young. Advice from Helios - the Homeopathic Pharmacy, suggested Homeopathic ‘Ant Crud 30’ which to my surprise healed the impetigo overnight.

I turned again to Homeopathy some months later, feeling at a very low ebb from what felt like endless breastfeeding and broken nights sleep. The homeopathic consultation felt so healing, and combined with the remedy, I felt my mood and world shift immediately after. This was enough to convince me and I started the 4 year training a few weeks later.

Since then, homeopathy is part of our everyday life. We see earaches clear up in hours, distraught children falling into a peaceful slumbers, fears of the dark vanishing and a fever becoming something to work with, rather than feared. I was lucky enough to have two home births, which I gladly attribute to well prescribed remedies.

My work now focuses on helping families gain the knowledge and confidence they need to treat theirs, and their children’s (minor) ailments themselves. I offer consultations, courses, and have produced a small book of all the natural remedies I used along the way, as I cared for my boys.

I love to work with mothers to help find their balance and center amid family life. I have learnt that Mothers are the pinnacle of the family, and if they are well cared for and in good balance, the family in turn is nourished. I also co-run Brighton’s Arnica group. A supportive monthly group for natural parenting and immunity.”

This life-changing experience inspired me to retrain as an Osteopath so that I could help others in the same way.

My gentle treatment style draws from the breadth and depth of my training at the ESO which, as an Osteopathic school is renowned for its integrated, mind-body approach. As such I use a variety of techniques tailored to the individual patient, including cranial, visceral, fascial and structural techniques. One of the favourite parts of my job is really getting to know my patients and exploring the best ways for them to find more health and balance in their life.

Cranial Osteopathy is an important part of my approach and I have completed postgraduate training with the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy. I love using this approach as a framework for my treatments. Its gentle nature means it is suitable for all, from the newborn baby to the older patient. I have also received specialist training in Obstetrics and Paediatrics and worked in specialist Paediatrics and Maternity clinics. From this, I have developed a interest in treating babies, children, and pregnant and post-natal patients. I also have clinical experience in supporting more challenging or complex health conditions with Cranial Osteopathy, including liaising and working with other health professionals where needed.

In my spare time I love to swim and practise yoga, study astrology, take long walks in nature, and travel and experience different cultures.
